‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ Wraps Unprecedented Shoot After 18 Months, 40,000 COVID Tests & Millions On Protocols; Colin Trevorrow & Donna Langley On The “Emotional” Journey
Jurassic World: Dominion began pre-production more than 18 months ago when the world was a very different place.
The $165M Universal blockbuster wrapped this morning at the UK’s Pinewood Studios after an unprecedented shoot, which required 40,000 COVID tests, millions of dollars spent on protocols, and for cast and key crew to isolate in a bubble for months.
“There are a lot of emotions,” director Colin Trevorrow told me last night on his way to shoot the movie’s finale, which will include “Jurassic legacy actors Sam Neil, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and newcomers to the movie such as Mamoudou Athie and DeWanda Wise [who we’ve separately heard could have a big role in future instalments]…and some dinosaurs, of course.”
“I’m not sure I can put it into words,” continues Trevorrow. “It has been remarkable. Our crew and our cast has been so resilient. All producers have worked around the clock to make it the best it can be. It has been inspiring.”
That can-do energy came from many, and began right at the very top. Donna Langley, Chairman Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, told us: “As we continue to contend with the challenges facing our industry during a global pandemic, the collaborative nature of this production allowed us to safely complete nearly 100 days of shooting, and we are so proud of what this team was able to accomplish.”

Jurassic World 3 director Colin Trevorrow on Tuesday announced Day 1 of shooting for the Universal sequel, plus the pic’s title: Jurassic World: Dominion.
It’s Trevorrow’s second time directing the dinosaur franchise, after J.A. Bayona took over for the second movie, 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Trevorrow is also exec producing with Steven Spielberg. Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are producing.
Through five movies, the Jurassic franchise in total has amassed north of $5 billion. Jurassic World: Dominion hits theaters on June 11, 2021. Jurassic World 3 star Chris Pratt says in addition to Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill many of the franchise’s old cast will return.
Jurassic World 3 will feature a returning cast of many of the franchise stars, according to its most prominent, Chris Pratt. The final chapter of the Jurassic World trilogy closes out the franchise’s cinematic run, at least for the time being. Pratt has spoken in bombastic terms about the trilogy finale in the past, comparing it to Avengers: Endgame, a movie that closed out a saga, but not a cinematic universe.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ended with dinosaurs roaming freely across the globe, both in cities and in the wild, suggesting the next film could take the story to a global scale. The broader scope opens the door to check in with fan-favorite characters from previous entries in the Jurassic Park saga, while also introducing a slew of new faces as well. Venom actor Scott Haze has been cast in the movie, for example, in a role that has yet to be disclosed.
Pratt continues to hype the film. At a press event, he told Variety the people behind Jurassic World 3 are “bringing everybody back.” Pratt, who plays Owen Grady in the trilogy, suggested that he was hanging on to a secret in making his comment, but much of the casting news about the movie has already been reported. Unless more returnees haven’t been confirmed, Pratt’s secret is one that escaped months ago.
The biggest casting news surrounding Jurassic World 3 is the return of the Jurassic Park characters fans fell in love with back in 1993. Dr. Alan Grant (played by Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) will appear in the current trilogy for the first time – except for Goldblum who popped up in a cameo in Fallen World. Additionally, Jake Johnson and Omar Sy reprise their roles from 2015’s Jurassic World.

Universal Pictures has set “Jurassic World 3” to bow on June 11, 2021, and tapped Emily Carmichael to join Colin Trevorrow as co-writer of the next pic.
“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” directed by J.A. Bayona, is set to open on June 22, 2018.
Steven Spielberg and Trevorrow return to executive produce Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s latest installment in the franchise. Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley return as producers.
Carmichael was hired by Amblin in 2016 to write and direct the family action-adventure “Powerhouse.” She co-wrote the upcoming “Pacific Rim Uprising” and most recently rewrote “The Black Hole” for Disney and director Joseph Kosinski. The writers will work off a story by Derek Connolly and Trevorrow, who together wrote “Jurassic World” and this summer’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.”
“It’s important to this franchise that we welcome new creative voices to keep our storytelling fresh and alive,” says Trevorrow. “I’m thrilled with the tension and beauty J.A. has brought to ‘Fallen Kingdom,’ and I know Emily will add another layer of emotion to the concluding chapter of our trilogy.”
The last two films starred Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt. 2015’s “Jurassic World” was a monster hit, grossing $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. [Source]
