Pratt reportedly won’t be doing a heavy Italian accent in the movie. Chris Pratt’s casting as Mario in the upcoming animated movie certainly caused a stir when it was first announced – and now producer Chris Meledandri has responded.
“All I can tell you is the voice that he’s doing for us, and Mario, is phenomenal,” he told Too Fab. “Yeah, I can’t wait for people to hear it.”
This isn’t his first time at the voice acting rodeo – he’s previously appeared in animated movies like The LEGO Movie and Onward, but some people questioned the decision to cast someone who isn’t Italian in the role of Mario.
Meledandri added: “As an Italian American myself, I understand. You know, I understand the comments. Charlie Day, who’s playing Luigi, actually comes from Italian heritage. Yeah, so that’s our nod.”
Alongside Pratt and Day, the movie’s voice cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
Meledandri also insisted that Pratt will not be doing a heavy Italian accent, saying: “We cover it in the movie, so you’ll see we definitely nod to that.”
Mario isn’t the actor’s only upcoming foray into voice acting – he’s also set to voice Garfield, the iconic orange cat, in a new movie. Pratt can next be seen (as well as heard) in Jurassic World 3, and he also has Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 on the way, in which he’ll reprise his role as Star-Lord, as well as the Prime Video series The Terminal List.

The prologue connects the franchise’s past and present. Jurassic World: Dominion goes 65 million years into the past in its opening moments, which have been unveiled online ahead of its release next summer.
The film picks up after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), which saw the destruction of the dinosaurs’ home, Isla Nublar, with a number of the animals escaping into the world at the movie’s end..
Dominion stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and returning Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum. It was initially slated for June 11, 2021, but was pushed to June 2022 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Director Colin Trevorrow has spent months at his home in England overseeing postproduction on the project. He penned the script with Emily Carmichael, from a story he developed with frequent collaborator Derek Connolly.
“It is a true ensemble of all of these people, even if they may not be side by side the whole time,” the filmmaker told The HollywoodReporter earlier this year. “There is just something really exhilarating, just from a generational standpoint, to be able to put all of these characters into a situation where they are again having to not just survive together, but make sure that we all don’t go extinct just like the dinosaurs.”
In addition to Dominion, Trevorrow has been keeping the Jurassic World franchise alive with Netflix’s animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, which arrives with season four in December and directly ties into the film series.
Jurassic World: Dominion, from Universal, is now set for a June 10, 2022, release

Chris Pratt promises Guardians of The Galaxy vol. 3 will be worth the wait after finishing an emotional first day on set for James Gunn’s sequel.
Chris Pratt says that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be worth the wait after an emotional first day of filming. Pratt plays Star-Lord/Peter Quill in the Marvel franchise, the third installment of which is once again directed by James Gunn. Pratt famously got buffed-up for the role, which he has played four times thus far (with a fifth appearance set for the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder), including the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Gunn was originally fired by Disney from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when some of his previous “offensive” tweets resurfaced. Gunn went on to direct DC’s The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros., before being hired back for Guardians after Disney had a change of heart. Now, Gunn is in production on the new Marvel film, filming it back-to-back with a planned Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is set to release in 2022. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was originally slated for release in May 2020, but Gunn’s temporary removal and the COVID-19 pandemic shuffled the project all the way to a new date of May 5, 2023.
Now, Chris Pratt has shared the same cast image that Gunn had posted from the first day of filming, citing his feelings about the kickoff of production. The actor said in the post that the day couldn’t have started off any better with a “delicate, emotional, funny, wild, complicated scene” that “everyone absolutely killed.” Pratt goes on to laud the “mad genius” Gunn before promising that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3“will be worth the wait.”
Chris Pratt is set to voice Garfield. Pratt will play the lazy orange cat in a new animated film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Pratt also shared an image of Garfield on Instagram captioned, “Well this Monday doesn’t suck.Previously, Bill Murray had voiced the cat in “Garfield: The Movie” and “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties.” Garfield creator Jim Davis will serve as an executive producer. Pratt will also play another iconic character and is set to voice Mario in the “Mario” movie set for release in 2022.
The “Super Mario Bros” animated movie has set a voice cast that will include Chris Pratt and Charlie Day as Mario and Luigi.
Nintendo announced the full cast today as part of their #NintendoDirect event, and it also includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Keegan-Michael Key, Jack Black, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, Kevin Michael Richardson, Sebastian Maniscalco and special cameos from Charles Martinet, who is the original voice of Mario, Luigi, Wario and more.
Pratt and Day will play the title characters Mario and Luigi, the two heroic plumbers who must make their way through the Mushroom Kingdom and rescue Princess Peach (Taylor-Joy) from the evil Lord Bowser (Black). Among the other key cast, Key is playing Toad and Rogen is playing Donkey Kong.
The “Super Mario Bros.” movie arrives in theaters on December 21, 2022, from Universal, Nintendo and Illumination Animation, which is behind the “Despicable Me” and “Minions” movies.
Chris Pratt has signed on to produce the action comedy “Stranded Asset” for Universal Pictures, starring Sam Richardson, who co-wrote the movie’s script with Jen D’Angelo.
The new project reunites the trio after their successful collaboration on Amazon’s “The Tomorrow War,” which Pratt executive produced and starred in alongside Richardson. D’Angelo was the on-set writer for the Skydance sci-fi feature.
Pratt will produce “Stranded Asset” through his Indivisible Productions banner, which has a first-look deal with Universal Pictures. Under the pact, Indivisible and Universal are in development on the recently announced “Saigon Bodyguards,” which reunites Pratt with his “Avengers” directors, the Russo Brothers, and Chinese movie star, Wu Jing.
A government program turns Duncan, a man who suffers from multiple personality disorder, into a super-soldier with the attributes of a cowboy, a ninja, and a Viking.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 Chris as Peter Quill / Star-Lord
Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill rallies his team to defend the universe and one of their own - a mission that could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful.
