‘Legendary Star-Lord’: James Gunn Teases The Possibility Of Chris Pratt Getting His Own ‘Guardians’ Spinoff

While the ending of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” put a bow on a lot of the dangling storylines developed by filmmaker James Gunn, it did also tee up what is to come. Obviously, the ending set up a new Guardians team lineup and the possibility of more films with the characters, but there was also a scene that seemed to set up a potential spinoff project with Chris Pratt returning as Star-Lord. And it appears that wasn’t just a random scene, but according to Gunn, this was actually setting up a spinoff.

In the newly released commentary track for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (via The Direct), James Gunn talked about the ending of his film. As mentioned, storylines were ended and others were teased, but the very, very end of the film finished with a title card that said, “The Legendary Star-Lord will return…” While it didn’t mean much at the time—obviously Pratt’s time in the MCU isn’t completely done because he’s not dead and has never publicly said he was stepping away like Dave Bautista—we didn’t know what exactly that tease was setting up. In Gunn’s mind, it’s meant to set the stage for a potential solo film starring Pratt as Star-Lord, but this time, he wouldn’t be fighting in outer space.

“We always want to give somebody a little something special,” said Gunn. “And Chris and I, forever, have talked about how great it would be to be able to do a ‘Legendary Star-Lord‘ movie, a story with Star-Lord on Earth trying to adapt to the environment of Earth in the same way that somebody else might try to adapt to the alien environment of outer space. He’s a fish out of water in just kind of regular water. So I can’t wait to see it.”

Judging by Gunn’s words, it sounds as if “Legendary Star-Lord” is a film that is already in development over at Marvel Studios. Of course, nothing has been announced and that very well might be the case. However, just because James Gunn said it in a commentary track doesn’t necessarily mean we should all mark our calendars and save the date for a Star-Lord solo film. Honestly, of all the stories set up in ‘Guardians 3,’ the one that is the least interesting (at least in this writer’s opinion) is watching Chris Pratt as Star-Lord figure out modern-day Earth. That just seems… dumb. Maybe that’s enough to carry a one-hour special or the B-plot of another film, but as its own big-budget, feature-length experience? Nah, I’m good.

That said, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is a massive hit, financially and critically, for Marvel Studios, a company looking for massive hits right now. So, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the studio quickly get a Chris Pratt-led ‘Guardians’ spinoff in the works sooner rather than later.

“The Terminal List” Announces Second Season

After months of uncertainty, Prime Video has now renewed Chris Pratt’s The Terminal List for season 2 and has also greenlit a prequel show.

Chris Pratt’s The Terminal List has now not only been renewed for season 2, but a new prequel show has also gotten the green light. Based on the hit novel of the same name by author Jack Carr, The Terminal List, which Pratt executive produces, was released on Prime Video last summer. The series earned mixed to negative reviews from critics, and follows Navy SEAL James Reece as he attempts to uncover the conspiracy surrounding his family’s murder following a botched mission in which his entire team is killed. In the months following the show’s release, Pratt and Carr both offered encouraging responses regarding the potential for season 2.

Now, per a new report from Deadline, Prime Video has now renewed The Terminal List for season 2 and greenlit a new prequel show, thus turning the series into a franchise. The news comes not long after Amazon executive Vernon Sanders teased that an exciting announcement regarding The Terminal List season 2 was on the way, which followed several teases from both Pratt and Carr. It’s not clear, however, when either of the shows will commence filming or when audiences can expect them to release on Prime Video.

After months of uncertainty, it’s now clear that Reece’s story is far from over. Season 1 sees Reece hunting and killing everyone that had a hand in his family’s murder. It soon becomes clear that the death of his family is connected to the death of his entire SEAL team seen in The Terminal List’s opening episode. Reece eventually discovers that he and his team were targeted due to their involvement with a trial for the drug RD4895, which was created in an attempt to prevent the onset of PTSD. Unfortunately for Reece and his team, the drug also causes brain tumors, something that certain members of the U.S. government were keen to cover up.

While Reece successfully kills everyone on his list, including Kitsch’s Edwards, the season finale ends with Pratt’s character still suffering from a brain tumor. Reece essentially comes to terms with the fact that he’s going to die in season 1, but season 2 could feature light at the end of the tunnel. It’s possible that Reece will consider seeking treatment in The Terminal List season 2 or, it’s also entirely possible that he’ll continue to suffer through the effects of his disease as he embarks on a new mission. Considering Reece kills most of the characters featured in The Terminal List season 1, it’s less clear who will be returning. It seems likely, however, that Constance Wu’s journalist, Katie Buranek, will be making a return.
